Observing for Evidence of Learning (OEL)

RMC Research is conducting a 4-year randomized and controlled study of the effectiveness of the Observing for Evidence of Learning (OEL) professional development model. The study is funded by the National Science Foundation and implemented by the Institute for Systems Biology in partnership with 4 Seattle area school districts, the University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University, and Clark County School District in Las Vegas. Observing for Evidence of Learning is a structured, school-based professional development model designed to enhance student achievement in science through the improvement of teaching at the middle school level. Skilled facilitators lead teachers through an examination of classroom practices to identify evidence of students’ understanding of scientific concepts and refine instruction through collaboration with scientists.

This website is for use by the OEL project staff and school-based OEL facilitators to coordinate activities and to report the progress of the implementation of OEL activities.
